Position Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Land Survey Department Lead to oversee and expand our survey operations in Orlando, Florida, with a strong emphasis on transportation-related projects for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

This leadership role is responsible for driving technical excellence, managing team performance, and supporting continued growth in one of Florida's most active transportation markets. The ideal candidate is a Florida-licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) with deep experience delivering FDOT-compliant survey services and leading high-performing teams.


Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership

  • Lead and manage survey staff, including field crews, project surveyors, and technicians
  • Oversee daily operations, staffing, and resource planning to meet project demands
  • Establish and enforce QA/QC standards consistent with FDOT and company requirements
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability and growth

Transportation & FDOT Project Oversight

  • Direct and manage survey services for FDOT and transportation infrastructure projects, including:
    • Design surveys
    • Right-of-way (ROW) mapping and control surveys
    • Construction staking and as-builts
  • Ensure all deliverables meet FDOT manuals, standards, and procedures
  • Review and certify surveys, legal descriptions, and mapping products

Client & Business Development

  • Serve as a key point of contact for FDOT, municipal agencies, and transportation clients
  • Support proposal development, fee estimates, and scope definition
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow transportation survey services in Central Florida
  • Maintain and strengthen long-term client relationships

Technical Leadership

  • Provide guidance on advanced survey methodologies (GPS, terrestrial, mobile LiDAR, etc.)
  • Oversee resolution of complex boundary, ROW, and control issues
  • Ensure compliance with Florida Statutes Chapter 472 and professional standards

Qualifications

Required

  • Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) license in the State of Florida
  • 10+ years of land surveying experience, with strong transportation project exposure
  • Demonstrated experience with FDOT surveying standards and workflows
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong understanding of survey technology, data processing, and mapping deliverables

Preferred

  • Established working relationships with FDOT District Five and/or local agencies
  • Experience leading a department or office-level survey operations
  • Track record of supporting business development and revenue growth
