Operations Manager - Building Automation (BAS)

Location: Austin, TX

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to lead and oversee Building Automation System (BAS) operations in the Austin, TX region. This role is responsible for managing project execution, service operations, and team performance to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality automation solutions across commercial and mission-critical facilities.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership experience, technical knowledge of BAS systems, and a proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and client relationships in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations for BAS projects and service delivery across the Austin market.
  • Manage and support teams including controls technicians, programmers, engineers, and project managers.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.

Project & Service Management

  • Provide oversight for project lifecycle from design through commissioning and turnover.
  • Monitor and improve service operations, ensuring responsiveness to client needs and service contracts.
  • Develop and implement processes to improve efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Financial & Business Management

  • Manage P&L, budgets, forecasting, and cost controls for the local operations team.
  • Track project financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Support business development efforts, including identifying growth opportunities and maintaining client relationships.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, train, and mentor staff to build a high-performing BAS team.
  • Conduct performance reviews and create development plans for team members.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Technical Oversight

  • Provide guidance on BAS systems including HVAC controls, energy management systems, and integrations.
  • Ensure adherence to standards involving BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and modern BAS platforms (e.g., Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider, Tridium Niagara).
  • Support troubleshooting and escalation on complex technical issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC controls, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in operations, team leadership, or project management roles.
  • Strong understanding of BAS technologies, HVAC systems, and building controls.
  • Proven experience managing budgets, project performance, and team productivity.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing operations in commercial real estate, healthcare, campuses, or data centers.
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency programs and smart building technologies.
  • Experience with BAS platforms (e.g., Siemens Desigo, JCI Metasys, Schneider EcoStruxure, Niagara).
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
  • Knowledge of local Austin/Texas market and contractor ecosystem.
