Head Estimator - Plumbing Division

Location: Central Ohio (On‑site with limited hybrid flexibility)
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports To: Director of Estimating & Preconstruction

An established, full‑service mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Head Estimator to lead their Plumbing Estimating team. This individual will oversee estimating strategy, complex bid execution, preconstruction planning, and mentorship of the plumbing estimating group while partnering closely with operations, project management, and executive leadership.

This is a high‑impact leadership role for a candidate who brings deep commercial plumbing expertise, strong field understanding, and the ability to manage high‑value pursuits across the education, commercial, industrial, and data center sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all plumbing estimating functions including takeoffs, bid strategy, scope development, and proposal preparation
  • Work directly under the Director of Estimating & Preconstruction to support major pursuits and develop market‑competitive strategies
  • Oversee and mentor a team of estimators across plumbing and mechanical scopes
  • Evaluate drawings, specifications, addenda, and complex technical documents for multi‑million dollar projects
  • Develop detailed cost estimates, budgets, and value‑engineering options
  • Collaborate with preconstruction, project management, field leadership, and executive teams to ensure accurate forecasting and seamless project handoff
  • Build strong subcontractor/vendor relationships and maintain updated material/equipment pricing
  • Support estimating for large‑scale commercial, industrial, manufacturing, and data center projects (ranging from $15M-$50M+)
  • Ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness across all bid submissions
  • Drive continuous improvement within the plumbing estimating function-process, tools, systems, team development

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years of plumbing estimating experience in commercial or industrial construction
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, plumbing code, and large‑scale commercial installations
  • Experience estimating schools, commercial buildings, manufacturing plants, hospitals, and/or data centers (major plus)
  • Field background highly preferred - "boots‑on‑the‑ground" experience is extremely valued
  • Ability to read complex blueprints, understand sequences, phasing, and preconstruction requirements
  • Highly proficient with estimation software and digital takeoff tools (training available for internal systems)
  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring capabilities
  • High integrity, accountability, and reliability - honesty and punctuality are noted as top values
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with autonomy and strong decision‑making
