Medical Equipment Planner (Mid-Level)

Salary: $100,000 - $120,000

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

About the company

I'm partnered with a well-established, multidisciplinary engineering and design consultancy with a strong national presence in the healthcare sector. Their portfolio spans academic medical centres, community hospitals, children's hospitals, and ambulatory care facilities across the country.

They've recently made significant investments to expand their Medical Equipment Planning service line and are scaling the team to meet growing demand, offering the resources of a national platform with the collaborative feel of a specialist team. They're also consistently recognised as one of the industry's top workplaces, with a strong reputation for developing their people long term.

The role

You'll join the Medical Equipment Planning team as a mid-level MEP, working on healthcare construction projects ranging from community hospital expansions to academic medical centre replacements and specialty care facilities. Day to day, you'll:

  • Collaborate with clinicians, architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors from design through activation.
  • Lead user group meetings to define equipment needs, workflows, and spatial requirements.
  • Build and maintain detailed equipment inventories, specifications, and budgets.
  • Coordinate procurement, tracking, delivery, and installation of equipment.
  • Support BIM/Revit coordination to ensure equipment integrates cleanly with layouts, utilities, and structural requirements.
  • Contribute to quality control across the full project lifecycle.

Requirements

Needed

  • 4 to 8 years of hands-on medical equipment planning experience within an AEC firm, independent consultancy, or health system.
  • Proven track record on healthcare construction projects (hospitals, ambulatory care, specialty facilities).
  • Strong knowledge of the full MEP lifecycle: programming, specification, procurement, installation, and activation.
  • Experience running user group meetings and managing clinical stakeholder input.
  • Proficiency with equipment planning software such as Attainia or Revalize.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule based out of the Chicago area.

Preferred

  • Revit / BIM experience for equipment placement and coordination.
  • Exposure to academic medical centres, children's hospitals, or large replacement hospital projects.
  • Familiarity with LEED and sustainable equipment considerations.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Prior experience supporting activation or transition planning alongside equipment delivery.

Why join

  • Join a growing MEP service line at a point of real momentum, with clear pathways to senior and lead planner positions.
  • Work on high-profile, complex healthcare projects across the country from a Chicago hybrid base.
  • Multidisciplinary environment: sit alongside MEP, structural, technology, and commissioning teams under one roof, giving you exposure well beyond a boutique planning firm.
  • A culture with a genuine track record on work-life balance, professional development, and investment in its people.
  • Recognised industry awards and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and stewardship.
