Our client is a confidential, high-growth AI infrastructure company building next-generation GPU supercomputers for some of the world's most advanced AI labs, governments, and enterprises. Their mission is to deliver scalable, high-density compute infrastructure that powers the future of artificial intelligence.
They are seeking a Principal Data Center Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and deployment of advanced cooling systems that support tens of thousands of GPUs. This is a unique opportunity to shape the mechanical strategy for AI-focused data centers from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of mechanical systems for high-density data centers, including air, liquid, and immersion cooling.
- Develop scalable HVAC and fluid-handling solutions that minimize PUE and maximize reliability.
- Create and maintain mechanical design standards, specifications, and sequences of operation.
- Drive innovation in cooling technologies such as rear-door heat exchangers, cold plates, and water-side economizers.
- Conduct CFD modeling and capacity planning to validate airflow, pressure, and temperature targets.
- Collaborate with external consultants to adapt master designs to local site conditions.
- Interface with electrical, controls, and construction teams through all design phases (30/60/90% reviews).
- Support factory inspections, site QA, and commissioning activities.
- Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally to support project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (PE or Chartered Engineer preferred).
- 10+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for data centers, with a strong understanding of AI/HPC environments.
- Deep knowledge of ASHRAE TC 9.9, liquid cooling best practices, and ISO 14644 standards.
- Proficiency in CFD tools (6Sigma, Ansys, Flotherm) and Revit/BIM workflows.
- Strong vendor relationships across chillers, pumps, manifolds, and coolant systems.
