Senior Geologist - Oil & Gas
Position Overview
This role is responsible for leading environmental investigation, remediation, and litigation support projects within the upstream oil and gas sector. The position also plays a key role in mentoring and developing junior technical staff to support both client delivery and team growth.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline
- 10-15+ years of experience in environmental consulting
- Professional licensure (e.g., P.G., P.E.) or at least 7 years of experience working under a licensed professional
- Strong knowledge of upstream oil and gas remediation regulations in Texas, New Mexico, and/or Louisiana, including experience working with agencies such as the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) and New Mexico Oil Conservation Division (OCD)
- Experience applying regulatory frameworks to site assessments, corrective action plans, and closure strategies
- Proven ability to develop remedial cost estimates, evaluate future remedial options, and support decision-making
- Experience leading site investigations, remedial design, hydrogeologic interpretation, and conceptual site model development
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage and prioritize complex data sets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working directly with clients and regulatory agencies
- Ability and willingness to mentor and support the development of junior staff
Preferred
- Experience supporting environmental litigation matters, including expert report preparation, deposition support, and technical analysis for liability or cost allocation
- Familiarity with CERCLA, RCRA, and state-level enforcement actions
- Knowledge of document management practices, including Bates numbering and file tracking
- Field experience under litigation conditions
- Experience contributing to professional publications
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead project execution, including scheduling, resource coordination, and overall delivery
- Manage project budgets, timelines, and invoicing in alignment with client and organizational expectations
Technical Review & Reporting
- Provide detailed technical analysis to support litigation and expert testimony
- Evaluate complex environmental issues and contribute to expert opinions for reports, depositions, and trial
- Oversee site investigations across private, commercial, and industrial properties
- Review and validate field data, interpret findings, and develop clear, defensible reports and recommendations
Business Development
- Support proposal development, cost estimating, and client engagement efforts
Team Development
- Mentor junior staff and support their technical and professional growth
- Collaborate with leadership to strengthen team capabilities and overall practice development
