Position: Senior Structural Restoration Engineer
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership: Manage multiple structural restoration projects simultaneously, from initial assessment through design development and construction close-out. Ensure technical quality, client satisfaction, and timely delivery.
Condition Assessments: Conduct comprehensive site investigations and structural condition assessments of existing buildings and infrastructure, including high-rise and historic structures. Identify deterioration, distress, and structural deficiencies.
Forensic Engineering: Perform root cause analysis for structural failures, water infiltration, material degradation, and load-path inconsistencies. Prepare detailed investigative reports with actionable recommendations.
Design & Documentation: Develop technical specifications, structural repair details, and engineering drawings for restoration and rehabilitation work. Ensure compliance with building codes, FISP/Local Law 11, and preservation guidelines.
Construction Administration: Oversee construction-phase services, including submittal reviews, responses to RFIs, change order evaluations, and on-site quality assurance. Collaborate closely with contractors to resolve field issues.
Client Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, including building owners, developers, and property managers. Communicate technical concepts clearly and professionally in both meetings and written correspondence.
Regulatory Compliance: Prepare and submit documents to city agencies, including DOB and Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC), ensuring compliance with local regulations and permitting requirements.
Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and collaborate with in-house architects and project managers. Contribute to internal training sessions and peer reviews.
Business Development Support: Assist with proposal development, budgeting, and scope definition for new and repeat clients.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New York State, or eligible within 6 months.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on restoration, rehabilitation, and/or forensic investigation.
Deep knowledge of structural systems (concrete, steel, masonry, timber), deterioration mechanisms, and repair techniques.
Proficiency in engineering analysis and documentation software (e.g., RISA, RAM, AutoCAD).
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with NYC codes, FISP/Local Law 11, LPC, and DOB filing procedures.
Experience with landmark or historic building restoration.
