A leading electrical contractor in New Jersey is seeking a skilled Traffic Signal Estimator (Electrical) to support a growing portfolio of transportation and infrastructure projects. This role offers a strong mix of technical challenge, industry impact, and long-term career growth.
Position Overview
The Traffic Signal Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, competitive estimates for traffic signal, roadway lighting, and related electrical infrastructure projects. The position requires strong plan interpretation skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of electrical construction within the transportation sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze traffic signal and roadway lighting plans, specifications, and bid documents.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and scheduling.
- Conduct electrical quantity takeoffs, including conduit, conductors, poles, signal heads, cabinets, controllers, ITS components, foundations, and related system elements.
- Communicate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure constructability alignment.
- Coordinate with material suppliers and vendors to obtain accurate pricing and maintain up‑to‑date cost data.
- Identify potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value‑engineering options.
- Assist with bid preparation, proposal documentation, and compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in traffic signal, roadway lighting, or electrical infrastructure estimating.
- Knowledge of NJDOT standards, local municipal specifications, and transportation electrical materials.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids, deadlines, and technical requirements simultaneously.
