Mechanical Design Engineer - Medium Voltage Switchgear

A growing power distribution equipment manufacturer is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong medium voltage (MV) switchgear experience to join their engineering team. This is a hands‑on design role focused on developing and supporting MV switchgear products, with direct involvement from concept through detailed design and submittal creation.
What You'll Do
- Design mechanical systems and components for medium voltage switchgear, including metal‑enclosed and metal‑clad configurations.
- Develop AutoCAD submittal drawings and ensure all documentation meets engineering and customer specifications.
- Create detailed 3D sheet metal models using Inventor (preferred) or SolidWorks, supporting manufacturability and assembly requirements.
- Collaborate with electrical engineering, applications engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure design integrity and seamless product development.
- Apply understanding of electrical clearances, transformers, and MV design constraints to produce accurate, compliant designs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in product design, quality, and engineering standards.
What We're Looking For
- Strong understanding of MV switchgear design, including metal‑enclosed vs. metal‑clad construction, clearances, and component integration.
- AutoCAD proficiency for developing submittals.
- 3D sheet metal modeling experience - Inventor preferred; SolidWorks acceptable with strong sheet metal skills.
- Experience working for a switchgear manufacturer is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with IEEE C37 standards is a strong plus.
- Experience profile:
- 2+ years with direct switchgear experience.
- 5-7 years of design + sheet metal experience from a related industry.
