Metering Engineer II/III - Controls & Interconnection Projects

A leading energy organization is seeking a Metering Engineer II or III to support the design, implementation, and oversight of advanced metering systems for interconnection and large customer projects. This role is essential in ensuring that metering infrastructure is accurate, compliant, and aligned with evolving regulatory and operational requirements.

Why This Role Matters

As the energy grid becomes more dynamic with the integration of distributed energy resources, renewable generation, and complex customer interconnections, the need for robust and precise metering systems is more critical than ever. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, collaborate with regulatory entities (such as Independent System Operators and Energy Imbalance Markets), and drive innovation in metering practices.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Metering System Design & Execution

    • Develop and implement metering solutions for interconnection and power purchase agreement (PPA) projects.
    • Configure metering systems to support accurate billing, operational monitoring, and regulatory reporting.
    • Perform transformer loss compensation calculations and develop loss schemes for complex metering configurations.
  2. Regulatory Compliance & Standards

    • Ensure metering systems meet applicable standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO/RTO markets, NERC BAL-005).
    • Interpret and apply evolving compliance frameworks to metering infrastructure and documentation.
  3. Project Integration & Technical Oversight

    • Coordinate metering requirements for a wide range of interconnection scenarios, including traditional and renewable generation, distributed energy resources, and large commercial customers.
    • Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during project planning and execution.
    • Provide final technical decisions and ensure alignment with project goals, timelines, and budgets.
  4. Stakeholder Collaboration

    • Work closely with internal departments (engineering, operations, regulatory, IT) and external stakeholders (utilities, customers, vendors) to ensure metering solutions meet all technical and business requirements.
    • Present technical findings and recommendations to leadership and project teams.
  5. Mentorship & Technical Leadership

    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and field personnel.
    • Support field teams in testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of metering equipment.
  6. Continuous Improvement & Innovation

    • Lead or contribute to initiatives aimed at improving metering accuracy, reliability, and efficiency.
    • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices through participation in industry groups and technical forums.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead technical investigations and develop long-term strategies for metering performance and compliance.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Deep technical knowledge of revenue metering systems and interconnection metering.
  • Proven ability to manage complex engineering projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
