Professional Land Surveyor (Practice Lead)
Position Overview
We are seeking a licensed and experienced Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead and grow an established survey practice. This role is ideal for a motivated leader with a strong background in both technical surveying and business development. The successful candidate will drive strategic growth, oversee a diverse portfolio of survey projects, and ensure high-quality deliverables while mentoring staff and fostering a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a wide range of survey projects, including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, utility, route, subdivision, and construction surveys
Provide technical oversight, including quality assurance and quality control of survey procedures and deliverables
Evaluate field and office workflows to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across all projects
Develop and execute strategies to grow the survey practice, including identifying new opportunities and expanding service offerings
Lead business development efforts, including client engagement, relationship management, and marketing initiatives
Collaborate with internal teams across multiple disciplines to deliver integrated solutions to clients
Supervise, mentor, and develop survey staff and technicians, fostering professional growth and team collaboration
Recruit and retain top talent to support long-term practice growth
Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project delivery
Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies
Qualifications
Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/PS) required (South Carolina preferred)
Additional licensure in neighboring states is a plus
10+ years of progressive land surveying experience
Proven success in business development, client management, and practice growth
Strong technical expertise across multiple survey types, including boundary and construction surveys
Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing and mentoring staff
Experience working within a multidisciplinary consulting environment preferred
Established network of industry contacts is a plus
Excellent communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills
