Structural Engineer / Bridge Inspector - Transportation Infrastructure
A well-established consulting firm is seeking a skilled and motivated Structural Engineer / Bridge Inspector to support infrastructure projects in Virginia Beach. This role involves leading inspections of bridges and related structures in accordance with NBIS and client-specific standards, as well as contributing to structural design efforts for transportation and utility infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as NBIS-compliant Team Leader for bridge and structure inspections
- Coordinate inspection schedules and resources
- Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings and recommendations
- Review reports for accuracy and completeness
- Design structural components for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and related infrastructure
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
- Manage task orders and project deliverables
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation-related structural engineering, including bridge inspections
- Familiarity with bridge inspection software (e.g., InspectTech, SAM, DBIR, ASIR)
- Meets NBIS Team Leader qualifications per 23 CFR 650.309
- Engineer Intern (EI) certification
- Completion of NBIS Bridge Inspection Training (NHI Courses 130055, 130053, 130078 required; 130087 preferred)
- Experience with structural design and CADD software (e.g., STAAD Pro, Larsa4D, Leap Bridge, MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenBridge)
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate inspection logistics and safety measures
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Experience inspecting ancillary structures
- Training in the use of snooper and bucket trucks
