Chicago | Senior Transportation Project Manager

My client, a nationally recognized engineering and infrastructure consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Transportation Project Manager to join its growing transportation practice in the Chicago area. This leadership role offers the opportunity to oversee complex roadway and transportation projects while managing multidisciplinary teams, client relationships, and project delivery from planning through construction.

Responsibilities
  • Manage transportation projects from planning and design through construction.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and subconsultants.
  • Develop and oversee project schedules, budgets, scopes, and staffing plans.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, municipalities, IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee roadway design, traffic coordination, drainage, utility coordination, and transportation infrastructure improvements.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards, budgets, schedules, and agency requirements.
  • Lead client meetings, presentations, and public involvement efforts.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support the professional development of project team members.
  • Review plans, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Manage contracts, project financials, invoicing, and project profitability.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal preparation, client relationship management, and identifying new project opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • PE license required (Illinois PE preferred or ability to obtain within six months).
  • 15+ years of transportation engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of project management and client-facing experience.
  • Experience with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, and/or CDOT projects.
  • MicroStation experience required; OpenRoads Designer (ORD) preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and technical writing skills.
