Geotechnical Engineer - New York

Overview:

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join its Geotechnical division in New York. This role offers a collaborative environment to shape infrastructure projects across NYC, Long Island, Hudson Valley, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide geotechnical oversight and logging of field explorations (borings, test pits, CPTs)
  • Develop and implement laboratory and field testing programs
  • Prepare geotechnical engineering reports, including analysis of field and lab data, and produce figures and drawings
  • Conduct engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, consolidation, deep foundations, mat foundations, ground surcharging, soil improvement (grouting, freezing), and liquefaction
  • Provide field oversight during construction (subgrade inspection, controlled fill, in-place density testing, driven/drilled piles); SOE and underpinning experience preferred
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, coordinate with teams, and support project planning and execution
  • Travel to job sites across NYC metro region during standard and occasionally extended hours

Qualifications:

  • 8-12 years of geotechnical engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's with geotechnical concentration is a plus
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate
  • NYS PE licensure preferred; candidates licensed in other states must obtain NY PE licensure within 6 months of hire
    (We can assist with the licensure transition if needed.)
  • OSHA 10‑hour or 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification is a plus
  • Proficiency with geotechnical software such as AutoCAD, gINT, APile, LPile, All Pile, GRL WEAP, Slide, CT Shoring Suite, PLAXIS, Shake 2000, and other advanced modeling tools
  • Ability to travel throughout NYC, Long Island, Hudson Valley, CT, and NJ, typically Mon-Fri, with potential evening and weekend commitments
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills

Compensation:

$120,000 - $150,000 / year, commensurate with experience
