HVAC Superintendent - Philadelphia
The Commercial Construction Department is seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC Superintendent who is responsible for leading and supporting field operations across multiple commercial HVAC projects. This role ensures jobsite efficiency, quality control, and safety while mentoring field staff and coordinating closely with project managers and foremen.
The HVAC Superintendent will oversee manpower planning, material management, subcontractor coordination, and site logistics, while maintaining a strong presence during key project events. The ideal candidate demonstrates technical expertise, leadership, and accountability, with a focus on promoting company values and continuous improvement
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and hold team accountable
- Represent Comany with complete professionalism, strength, honesty, trust, integrity, and gratitude (with all external and internal people)
- Maintain weekly site visits to all assigned projects, with extra time spent on a site when needed
- Maintain onsite presence for all major project events (crane lifts, major rigging, factory start-ups, etc.)
- Evaluate and communicate potential field challenges and opportunities to Project Manager (PM) and foreman
- Assist in yearly employee performance review process
- Support and assist PM in manpower estimation, project loading, managing subcontractors, etc.
- Oversee and report material ordering process in collaboration with job foreman on projects to report to PM
- Assist with identifying rental equipment needs
- Oversee tool and material tracking process on projects
- Active and regular engagement with project field staff to maintain performance expectations, quality expectations and project morale
- Address employee issues in a timely manner to avoid small problems becoming large problems
- Plan and execute crucial conversations without delay and with thorough preparation
- Identify, train and encourage motivated, high potential employees
- Support your direct reports leadership and let them lead without micro-managing
- Own your responsibilities and mistakes when they happen
- Evaluate, identify, and communicate industry efficiency advancements to DO
- Capture photo/video opportunities for future marketing opportunities
- Respectfully and firmly represent companies interests with GC's staff when necessary
- Promote a realistic culture of safety and company core values
- Engage in teaching/mentoring opportunities with project foreman
- Address and report quality control, employee issues, subcontractor concerns, GC concerns, etc. back to PM through regular reporting process as developed by the project team
- Collect weekly field employee time information from jobsite and communicate to PA for payroll and project reporting
- Oversee and hold accountability in daily foreman log process
- Continuously research new opportunities and/or equipment that can improve efficiency
- Communicate regularly with the safety director and assist with safety reviews, incident investigations, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding of project scope
- Preferred 5 years' experience as a foreman.
- Minimum 5 - 10 years of experience in commercial construction mechanical field
- Knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems
- Strong skills in leadership, overseeing multiple projects, and self-motivation
- Excellent communication abilities, including writing, speaking and active listening
- Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, prioritization and multitasking
- Ability to take initiative and solve problems
- Ability to interact with multiple personality types while ensuring a positive outcome
- Able to read and understand equipment installation and operation manuals, specification and submittal sheets
- Ability to use current technology (i.e., computer, tablet, smartphone, Microsoft Teams, Procore, BIM)
