Hydraulic Engineer - Indianapolis, IN

A leading civil engineering firm is seeking a talented and driven Hydraulic Engineer to join its Indianapolis-based team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of infrastructure projects, with a focus on stormwater management, drainage systems, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing sustainable water resource solutions that support transportation, municipal, and private development initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze stormwater systems, including detention basins, culverts, and storm sewers.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using tools such as HEC-RAS, HY-8, StormCAD, and Civil 3D.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, drainage calculations, and permit applications in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including roadway, bridge, and site development engineers to integrate hydraulic designs into broader project scopes.
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in hydraulic and hydrologic engineering, preferably with experience in transportation or municipal projects.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software and CAD tools.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and permitting processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
