Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Estimator with strong heavy mechanical and industrial mechanical experience to support our growing mechanical contracting operations in the Greenville market. The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical projects, including process piping, industrial equipment installation, HVAC systems, and large mechanical assemblies. This role works closely with project managers, engineers, field leadership, and vendors to ensure comprehensive, profitable proposals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for mechanical construction projects including heavy mechanical, piping, HVAC, plumbing, and equipment installations.
  • Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and scope documents to determine labor, material, and equipment needs.
  • Perform material takeoffs and quantify labor using production rates aligned with mechanical contracting standards.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure accurate pricing for specialized mechanical systems.
  • Support pre‑construction planning by identifying scope gaps, clarifications, alternates, and value‑engineering opportunities.
  • Prepare complete bid packages, including breakdowns, assumptions, clarifications, and supporting documentation.
  • Attend pre-bid walk-throughs and site visits to validate conditions and project requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to ensure alignment between estimates and field execution plans.
  • Maintain historical cost data, labor productivity metrics, and vendor pricing databases to improve estimate accuracy.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-7+ years of estimating experience with a mechanical contractor or in heavy mechanical construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, process piping, equipment setting, HVAC, and mechanical fabrication.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, equipment schedules, and construction documents.
  • Proficiency with industry tools such as:
    • Estimating software (e.g., Trimble, FastPIPE/FASTDUCT, QuoteSoft, or similar)
    • Bluebeam for takeoffs
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management tools
  • Strong understanding of labor units, installation methods, and construction sequencing.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, power generation, or large commercial mechanical projects.
  • Background supporting both negotiated and competitive bid work.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required).
  • Familiarity with design‑build or design‑assist environments.
