Engineer III

Job Classification: Salaried/Exempt

Fee Schedule Classification: Engineer III

Assists in the planning, design and management of civil engineering projects. Serves as the project engineer on smaller and routine projects or as a capable assistant to the project engineer on large and more complex projects. Represents the firm to an assigned list of clients/cities and supports the business development of new clients. Division of time is roughly as follows:

Project assignments 80-90% Chargeable

General admin & business development 10-10% Non-Chargeable

Responsibilities

Prepares proposal estimates of time and expense required to complete smaller and routine projects, participates in presenting the proposal to the client.

Defines the engineering solution to client's problems and researches design options, either as part of the project team or as the project engineer/supervisor.

Solves engineering problems using experience, judgment and education, but is expected to ask for assistance when needed.

Prepares engineering studies and design for new systems and analyzes operation of existing systems.

Serves as project engineer on smaller projects with associated responsibilities for client liaison, budgets, schedules, quality control, contractor selection, coordination of field observation, and contract administration.

Prepares design computations and quantity estimates, develops probable construction cost estimates or checks junior staff's work for this task.

Resolves day-to-day problems on a project, acts as technical advisor to junior staff assigned to the project, and instructs drafters/technicians.

Coordinates project documentation to provide a clear and accurate record of construction.

Sees that shop drawings are reviewed in a timely manner, partial payments are made and change orders approved.

Exercises care to minimize property/equipment damage and fully understands and cooperates with the firm's Loss Prevention Program.

Promotes the success of the team through individual initiative, cooperation to achieve common goals and accommodation to change.

Other duties as assigned.

Reports to:

Reports to the project engineer/supervisor of the assigned project and to the Office Manager.

Authority/Supervisory Responsibility:

Supervises and checks work of junior staff assigned to the project.

Reviews project design/reports with project engineer/supervisor or with Office Manager.

As project engineer, has project schedule/budget responsibilities

Qualifications:

Must have degree in civil engineering and be registered in the state in which you work. Must have at least 6 years experience since registration in project design and demonstrated ability to manage a project team of interdisciplinary professionals. Must have the ability to utilize computer systems as a tool to effectively manage projects. Must understand CAD operations.
