Operations Center Manager
About the Opportunity
A growing owner and operator of utility-scale renewable energy and energy infrastructure assets is seeking an Operations Center Manager to lead its around-the-clock operations monitoring function. This individual will be responsible for overseeing a team of operators responsible for monitoring and supporting a large portfolio of energy assets across multiple markets.
This is a people leadership position focused on team management, operational effectiveness, workforce planning, and process improvement. While familiarity with operations center environments is important, the primary responsibility is leading personnel and ensuring reliable execution of operational processes rather than serving as a day-to-day system operator.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of operations center professionals.
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and employee development initiatives.
- Foster a culture centered around safety, accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
Performance & Workforce Management
- Establish expectations, monitor team performance, and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Manage staffing schedules to ensure continuous operational coverage.
- Improve retention, engagement, and overall team effectiveness through proactive workforce planning.
Operational Management
- Provide leadership and decision-making support during operational events or heightened system activity.
- Ensure timely escalation and resolution of operational issues.
- Monitor performance metrics and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reliability.
Process Development & Compliance
- Develop, maintain, and improve operational procedures, workflows, and standard operating practices.
- Ensure team adherence to internal processes, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Support compliance efforts related to industry standards and operational governance.
Collaboration
- Partner with engineering, maintenance, compliance, and other internal stakeholders to support operational goals.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts to resolve issues and improve overall asset performance.
Desired Background
Leadership Experience
- Experience leading teams within an operations center, utility, power generation, industrial, or similarly critical operational environment.
- Demonstrated success managing employee performance and operational metrics.
- Experience supporting 24/7 operational organizations and shift-based staffing models.
- Strong interpersonal and coaching skills with the ability to drive accountability and development.
Technical & Industry Knowledge
- Familiarity with renewable energy, energy storage, power generation, utility operations, or related infrastructure.
- Experience utilizing operational monitoring platforms, SCADA systems, asset management software, or comparable technologies.
- Working knowledge of industry compliance and reliability standards is highly preferred.
Education & Skills
- Associate degree, technical training, military technical experience, or equivalent industry experience required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Additional Information
- Occasional travel may be required.
- This is an on-site leadership position.
- Standard schedule is afternoon/evening focused; however, flexibility is expected to support business needs, operational events, and occasional off-hours situations.
