Process Mechanical Department Lead

We are seeking a Process Mechanical Engineering Department Lead with broad consulting experience supporting a wide range of manufacturing and industrial clients. This role contributes to project execution and supports the growth of the Process Engineering function. The individual will provide technical expertise related to process and piping engineering in industrial facilities, with the ability to guide clients through early project planning, front‑end engineering, process flow development, equipment selection, and final design.

This position requires familiarity with industrial process system design and equipment such as scrubbers, dust collection systems, chemical storage systems, compressed gas systems, heat exchangers, pumping systems, cooling towers, thermal oil systems, compressed air plants, and similar process systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop initial process design concepts for major phases of industrial projects, including equipment specification, load calculations, and sizing of ductwork and piping.
  • Create Block Flow Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams (with heat and mass balances), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Develop operational control documentation including functional descriptions, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and sequences of operation.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses.
  • Prepare piping designs and lead designers in developing 3D piping models, stress analyses, pipe support design, and fabrication‑level piping isometrics; may include ductwork as needed.
  • Conduct research to resolve complex engineering challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Prepare engineering reports, calculations, specifications, drawings, procurement documents, and construction documentation.
  • Support proposal development and participate in client meetings and presentations.
  • Participate in bidding and contract administration activities; oversee design, installation, and project progress, including coordination with regulatory authorities and external stakeholders.
  • Lead coordination efforts with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams.
  • Conduct research and problem‑solving related to conflicting requirements, material limitations, coordination challenges, and schedule pressures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 20 years of experience in process and piping design for industrial or manufacturing facilities within sectors such as food and beverage, battery production, energy storage, automotive, metals, and similar industries.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in at least one U.S. state; multiple state licensure preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Expert knowledge of codes and standards used in industrial design (e.g., ASME, API, AWS, NFPA, ISA, IBC).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel to client meetings and project sites as needed.
  • Valid driver's license.
