Professional Land Surveyor
Overview
A growing civil engineering and land development firm in Minneapolis is seeking a licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead and manage a wide range of survey projects across the Twin Cities region. This role is ideal for a self‑driven, detail‑oriented survey professional who enjoys both technical project oversight and direct client interaction. The PLS will have the opportunity to guide field crews, manage project schedules, and contribute to long‑term growth of the survey department.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee land surveying projects including boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, construction staking, and platting.
- Prepare survey reports, legal descriptions, plats, and maps in accordance with Minnesota surveying standards.
- Lead and mentor field crews and CAD technicians; provide technical guidance and QA/QC on survey deliverables.
- Coordinate with engineers, developers, architects, contractors, and municipal agencies.
- Ensure compliance with state and local laws, regulations, and project specifications.
- Utilize surveying equipment such as GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors; oversee data processing and workflow.
- Manage project budgets, timelines, and client communication.
- Support business development efforts, including proposal writing and client relationship management.
- Contribute to strategic planning and growth of the survey department.
Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the state of Minnesota, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- 4-15+ years of progressive surveying experience; experience in land development or municipal projects preferred.
- Proficiency with survey software such as Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of Minnesota surveying laws, land records, and platting processes.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to visit project sites as needed.
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing survey teams or leading project operations.
- Familiarity with GIS platforms or drone-based surveying (UAS).
- Experience with commercial, residential, transportation, or utility projects in the Minneapolis region.
