A leading international renewable energy developer is expanding its footprint in New Zealand and is seeking a skilled Project Development Manager to drive the end‑to‑end development of large‑scale renewable energy projects. About the Role
Working closely with the NZ leadership team, this role oversees the full lifecycle of utility‑scale renewable energy projects - with a strong emphasis on solar and battery storage development. You will coordinate multidisciplinary workstreams, engage with external partners, and ensure projects progress smoothly from initial site assessment through to investment approval.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all development activities for large‑scale renewable energy projects across New Zealand.
- Coordinate inputs from internal technical specialists across planning, engineering, commercial, grid, environment, and stakeholder engagement.
- Manage external consultants preparing planning and consenting documentation for regulatory authorities.
- Support grid‑related activities, including working with lines companies and national transmission bodies on connection requirements.
- Contribute to land acquisition processes, including applications for sensitive land approvals.
- Develop and deliver stakeholder engagement plans, building positive relationships with communities, iwi, councils, and local partners.
- Prepare project budgets, timelines, risk assessments, and internal reports for senior leadership.
- Maintain oversight of regulatory, market, and policy changes affecting solar and storage development.
- Mentor junior team members and support capability building within the NZ project team.
- Oversee the progression of projects from early feasibility through to final investment decision.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for a proactive and adaptable development professional with:
- At least 3 years of experience developing large‑scale renewable energy projects.
- Strong understanding of planning processes, grid connection pathways, project financing considerations, and risk management frameworks.
- Proven experience coordinating cross‑functional teams and consultants.
- Confident relationship‑building skills with iwi, communities, landowners, and local authorities.
- Experience preparing project budgets, development strategies, and project delivery plans.
- Qualifications in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Project Management, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
