Senior Geotechnical Engineer
A large East Coast engineering firm is seeking a Senior-Level Project Manager/Engineer to join its Frederick, Maryland office and support a wide variety of geotechnical, construction materials testing (CMT), special inspections, and monitoring projects. Projects are primarily located within Frederick and the surrounding Central Maryland region, with occasional short-term travel as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Special Inspection Engineer of Record for construction projects across Frederick County and nearby jurisdictions.
- Provide geotechnical and technical support to Construction Materials Testing (CMT) project managers, including site visits and participation in project progress meetings.
- Prepare field reports, internal correspondence, and engineering reports.
- Support the office's Geotechnical Group and other departments as required.
- Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day-to-day correspondence.
- Maintain strong client relationships through professional service and consistent communication.
- Oversee technical excellence and ensure quality and integrity across all service delivery.
- Follow company safety policies and site safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical emphasis preferred); M.S. preferred.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in the construction industry with emphasis on construction materials inspections/testing and/or quality control.
- Strong knowledge of Special Inspection programs applicable to Central Maryland.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required (Maryland preferred; reciprocity considered).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness to travel locally and work out of town for short periods when required.
Physical / Field Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely traverse rugged terrain and active construction sites.
