Structural Engineer
Overview
This mid-sized, multidisciplinary engineering firm (~50 staff) is seeking a Structural Engineer (PE) with 6-12 years of experience to join its team in Portland, Vancouver, or Phoenix. The role is focused on a hands-on engineer with a strong background in building design and experience managing projects, staff, and client relationships. You'll work across a diverse mix of retail, mixed-use, multi-family, and institutional projects, with involvement from concept through construction, and potential exposure to seismic evaluation and retrofit work (ASCE 41).
Looking For (Core Requirements)
- PE license required
- 6-12 years of experience strictly required (targeting mid-level, hands-on engineer)
- Proven experience in building design (non-negotiable)
- Experience managing projects, staff, and client relationships
- Background across:
- Retail
- Mixed-use
- Multi-family
- Institutional
- Exposure to ASCE 41 / seismic evaluation & retrofit work is a strong plus
What You'll Be Doing
- Design and analyze structures across concrete, steel, wood, and masonry
- Work on projects end-to-end (concept → construction)
- Support and mentor junior engineers
- Coordinate across disciplines and interface directly with clients & stakeholders
- Partner with senior leadership on project delivery and execution
Nice to Have
- Master's degree or SE license
- Experience with commercial/industrial buildings
- Proficiency in RISA, RAM, ENERCALC, AutoCAD and/or Revit
- Seismic/retrofit experience (ASCE 41 exposure)
