Substation Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to design, specify, evaluate, and coordinate the installation of protective relaying, metering, control schemes, circuit breakers, motor-operated switches, transformers, voltage regulators, grounding systems, and related equipment. This role ensures a properly engineered transmission and substation network and provides technical support across multiple departments and member utilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop relay protection and control schemes for transmission lines, transformers, circuit breakers, and other substation equipment.
  • Create one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Set protective relays and perform fault analysis and coordination studies.
  • Maintain and update system fault models; conduct studies and share data with stakeholders.
  • Design and implement metering for substations and interconnections.
  • Monitor equipment condition, analyze loading and ratings, and optimize system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with ANSI, IEEE, NESC, NEC, and NERC standards.
  • Provide technical guidance during testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare equipment specifications, evaluate proposals, and recommend acquisitions.
  • Design and review substation grounding systems and surge protection.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in power systems, protective relaying, metering, and control systems; utility experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of AC three-phase systems and computer-aided drafting.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
