Substation Project Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Substation Project Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of substation engineering and construction projects. This role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end project management for substation projects, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and execution.
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, permitting, and utility teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Oversee design reviews, technical documentation, and QA/QC processes to ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
  • Manage project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and resolve issues that may impact project timelines or deliverables.
  • Monitor project performance using KPIs and provide regular updates to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate communication between internal teams, contractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Support field activities including site assessments, construction oversight, and commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation for audits and close-out procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management training is a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in substation engineering or construction, with at least 3 years in a project management role.
  • Strong understanding of substation components, protection & control systems, and utility standards.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP).

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with utilities such as Duke Energy, NextEra Energy, or similar.
  • Familiarity with EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project delivery models.
  • Knowledge of permitting processes and environmental compliance in utility projects.
