Traffic Engineer II
Position Summary
The Traffic Engineer II supports the Division and/or Project Manager in the preparation of high-quality traffic engineering studies and construction plans for a variety of public- and private-sector clients. This role is ideal for a self-motivated professional who performs well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and is capable of applying critical thinking to make independent engineering judgements and design decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop complex traffic signal plans and traffic simulation models to support capacity analyses and level-of-service evaluations.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of traffic signal systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
- Quickly learn and apply new design standards, procedures, and local ordinances.
- Consistently apply GDOT and internal design standards to all project work.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and well-organized technical reports and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and review construction plans for traffic signals and other traffic control systems in accordance with GDOT and local jurisdiction requirements.
- Prepare and review traffic engineering studies supporting projects with state and local agencies, as well as private development clients.
- Apply knowledge of GDOT's Project Development Process (PDP), Preconstruction Project Guide (PPG), and Engineering Design Guide (EDG).
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of state, county, and municipal ordinances, including ADA requirements.
- Collect, analyze, and evaluate traffic data, including traffic counts, crash data, field observations, signal timing data, and basic survey information.
- Prepare accurate construction cost estimates.
- Communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, and agency partners.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Minimum of four (4) years of relevant traffic engineering or transportation design experience.
- Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in the State of Georgia required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia preferred.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Synchro, HCS, PC Warrants, and VISSIM.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe PDF software.
