Building Automation Technician (Tridium Niagara)
Location: San Antonio, TX (Greater SA Metro; occasional regional travel)
About the Role
We're seeking a hands-on Building Automation Technician with strong Tridium Niagara (N4) experience to install, commission, and service Building Automation Systems (BAS) across commercial, healthcare, higher education, industrial, and municipal sites in the San Antonio area. You'll work on field controllers, integrations (BACnet, Modbus, Lon), graphics, alarming, and trend logs, and ensure systems perform to spec and deliver measurable outcomes in comfort, reliability, and energy efficiency.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Install & Commission BAS: Mount, wire, and terminate controllers, sensors, and actuators; power-up, download, and validate sequences.
- Niagara Workbench / N4: Build and configure stations, PX graphics, schedules, alarms, histories; manage users, backups, and hierarchies.
- Integrations: Discover and integrate BACnet MSTP/IP, Modbus RTU/TCP, and (as needed) LonWorks; troubleshoot maps, device IDs, baud rates, network health.
- Service & Troubleshooting: Diagnose field and network issues (I/O wiring, device health, bus collisions, IP conflicts), apply root-cause fixes, document findings.
- Sequence Verification: Validate operation per engineered sequences; fine‑tune PID loops, setpoints, and resets; optimize for energy performance.
- Customer Support: Provide clear status updates, train operators, and deliver post‑install support with strong documentation.
- Quality & Safety: Follow company QA/QC and OSHA safety practices; maintain neat panels, labeling, and as-built documentation.
- Collaboration: Work with project managers, engineers, electricians, and commissioning agents; support change orders and punch lists.
- Tools & Admin: Keep organized service notes, redlines, station backups, and asset inventories in company systems (e.g., CMMS/Service platform).
What You'll Bring (Minimum Qualifications)
- 2+ years experience in BAS/controls, HVAC controls, or related low‑voltage systems.
- Hands-on Tridium Niagara N4 experience (Workbench fundamentals: stations, networks, graphics, alarms, histories).
- Familiarity with BACnet and Modbus protocols; can commission MSTP and basic IP networks.
- Ability to read mechanical plans, control submittals, point lists, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Solid electrical skills (low voltage, terminations, meter use, grounding, panel layout).
- Valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record; eligible to access secure facilities (as applicable).
- Ability to lift 40-50 lbs., work on ladders, and visit active construction sites.
Bonus Points (Preferred)
- Niagara 4 TCP or Niagara 4 Technical Certification (or in progress).
- Experience with AX to N4 migrations, station backups/restores, Supervisor setups, and user role management.
- Vendor ecosystems (e.g., Distech, Honeywell/WEBs, Johnson FX, Vykon).
- Networking basics: VLANs, subnets, DHCP, managed switches, BBMD/Foreign Device concepts.
- HVAC equipment knowledge (AHUs, RTUs, VAVs, boilers, chillers, heat pumps).
- OSHA 10/30, Scissor/Lift cert, TWIC or healthcare campus experience.
- Scripting or logic blocks (BQL, Tagging frameworks, Haystack or Brick familiarity).
