Role Overview
The Vice President of Transmission provides strategic and operational leadership for a high‑voltage electric transmission system, working closely with the Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) owners and participating communities. This executive ensures reliable wholesale power delivery, guides long‑term transmission investments, and leads initiatives that strengthen grid performance, resilience, and modernization.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Shape and implement the organization's long‑term vision for transmission development, focusing on future load growth, system reliability, and integration of new resources.
- Represent the organization in Georgia ITS planning activities, helping to determine expansion priorities and system improvements.
- Ensure transmission planning aligns with company objectives, financial frameworks, and stakeholder interests.
Operational Management
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of transmission facilities in accordance with FERC, NERC, SERC, and Reliability Coordinator standards.
- Direct processes related to outage coordination, system surveillance, emergency preparedness, and restoration operations.
- Foster a strong safety and reliability culture across all transmission activities.
Engineering, Construction & Asset Strategy
- Lead teams responsible for engineering, project execution, construction, and long‑term asset stewardship.
- Ensure major projects meet technical specifications, are completed on schedule, and stay within approved budgets.
- Guide asset lifecycle planning to reduce risk, enhance performance, and manage total cost of ownership.
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
- Maintain compliance with all federal, regional, and state requirements governing transmission reliability and operations.
- Serve as a senior representative to ITS committees, regulatory bodies, regional planning organizations, and compliance entities.
Financial & Business Leadership
- Oversee budgeting and financial planning for transmission capital programs, operations, and administrative needs.
- Support long‑term financial modeling and cost‑recovery strategies.
- Assess the financial, operational, and policy implications of major transmission initiatives.
External & Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate effectively with executive leadership, governing boards, local communities, regulators, and industry partners.
- Strengthen relationships with ITS Participants and other key stakeholders involved in transmission planning and operations.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline required.
- Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, M.S. in Engineering) preferred.
Professional Experience
- At least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in electric transmission, power systems, or utility operations.
- Experience working within or alongside the Georgia ITS is advantageous.
- Minimum of 7-10 years in senior leadership or executive management roles.
- Background in transmission planning, operational oversight, major project delivery, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong understanding of FERC regulation and NERC/SERC reliability frameworks.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep knowledge of high‑voltage transmission systems and grid reliability principles.
- Proven leadership of large‑scale infrastructure programs and technical teams.
- Strong financial insight, including budget development and cost‑recovery methodologies.
- Excellent communicator with strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strategic mindset combined with strong operational execution skills.
