Principal Structural Engineer - Renewable Energy Focus (Remote, Full-Time)
Compensation: $180,000-$185,000 + Bonus | Remote | Flexible Schedule
A nationally recognized and rapidly growing engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to help lead and expand its structural engineering practice. This firm is known for its innovation, data-driven culture, and commitment to shaping the future of renewable energy infrastructure.
This is a high-impact leadership role that blends technical excellence, team development, and client engagement-particularly within the solar PV and broader renewable energy sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Lead complex structural design efforts for solar tracker foundations, structural systems, and remediation strategies
- Develop and maintain internal standards, QA/QC procedures, and engineering best practices
- Solve advanced technical challenges involving expansive soils, pile performance, corrosion, and more
- Oversee post-installation testing and data-driven remediation recommendations
Team Development
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers
- Support hiring, training, and career development initiatives
- Help shape the structure and growth of the structural department
Client Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to EPCs, developers, and manufacturers
- Lead technical discussions, workshops, and field investigations
- Support proposals, pricing strategies, and strategic account growth
Project Oversight
- Manage multiple concurrent projects across various stages
- Coordinate with internal civil and geotechnical teams for integrated solutions
- Monitor budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure quality and efficiency
Additional Areas of Focus
- Structural design for buildings, industrial infrastructure, and prefabricated systems
- Deep and shallow foundation design (piles, caissons, spread footings, etc.)
- Structural assessments, retrofits, and load analysis (seismic, wind, snow)
- Construction-phase support, including inspections and field modifications
Qualifications
- PE license (required); SE license a plus
- Bachelor's (required) or Master's (preferred) in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 10+ years of structural engineering experience, with 5+ years in solar PV or renewables
- Proficiency in structural software (RISA, RAM, STAAD, SAP) and CAD tools (AutoCAD)
- Strong knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and geotechnical-structural interactions
- Proven leadership, mentoring, and client-facing experience
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills
- Willingness to travel occasionally (~5%)
