Position Overview
The organization is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join its growing Nashville operations.
This role involves performing geotechnical investigations, conducting engineering analyses, coordinating laboratory and field activities, and supporting both design and construction‑phase services for projects across Tennessee and surrounding regions.
The position covers the full project lifecycle-from field exploration planning and subsurface investigations through engineering evaluation, reporting, and ongoing construction support.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee geotechnical field investigations, soil borings, drilling operations, and sampling programs
- Coordinate laboratory testing and interpret geotechnical data for engineering evaluations
- Perform engineering analyses including bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, groundwater considerations, and earthwork recommendations
- Prepare geotechnical reports, proposals, calculations, and design recommendations
- Support construction materials testing, earthwork monitoring, and special inspections as needed
- Collaborate with drilling crews, laboratory staff, inspectors, and environmental personnel
- Communicate with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to support project needs
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and technical documentation
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline
- P.E. preferred
- 3-7+ years of geotechnical engineering or related field experience
- Experience with drilling oversight, soil borings, and laboratory testing procedures
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation behavior, and subsurface evaluation
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively with clients and field personnel
Preferred Experience
- Experience in construction materials testing or special inspections
- Familiarity with geotechnical software such as gINT, GeoStudio, LPILE, or equivalent
- Willingness to support field activities, site visits, and contractor coordination
