A leading heavy civil contractor specializing in complex infrastructure and bridge construction is seeking a Senior Estimator to join its team in the Alexandria, VA area. This role will play a key part in pricing, developing, and winning major civil and structural projects throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for heavy civil, bridge, and structural transportation projects.
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, foundations, concrete, and structural elements.
- Analyze plans, specifications, and geotechnical data to support cost development and constructability.
- Lead bid preparation, develop pricing strategies, and coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Work closely with project management and engineering teams to ensure alignment between design intent and construction approach.
- Maintain current knowledge of regional labor, equipment, and material pricing.
- Support value engineering, risk analysis, and schedule input during the bid process.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, transportation, or bridge construction.
- Strong background with structural scopes such as bridges, retaining walls, and concrete packages.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff tools (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam, or similar).
- Ability to interpret civil and structural plans, specs, and design models.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience working on DOT or major infrastructure projects is highly preferred.
- Engineering, construction management, or related technical degree is a plus.
