Senior Electrical Engineer - Rail & Transit Facilities
Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) - Rail & Transit (Hybrid | Washington, DC Metro)
Confidential client | Multi‑discipline engineering & project management consultancy (ENR Top 500; recognized workplace)
Why this role
If you're an experienced licensed Electrical Engineer who wants to lead technical delivery on railroad + public transit infrastructure, this is a chance to sit at the center of complex programs that keep systems running and help agencies expand capacity. The team supports the full lifecycle-design through construction-across key rail/transit systems and facilities.
You'll be the go‑to technical resource: setting electrical direction, owning high‑value design work, and mentoring junior engineers-without stepping away from hands‑on engineering.
What you'll be doing
- Lead electrical design concepts and approaches on rail/transit and supporting facility projects; solve complex engineering problems with independence and sound judgment.
- Produce and review electrical deliverables (drawings, specs, calculations, reports, assessments) with a high bar for quality and constructability.
- Perform and/or oversee power system studies and calculations (e.g., short circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, voltage drop, grounding, lighting/photometrics).
- Provide construction support: shop drawing review, field inspections, coordination with contractors, suppliers, and client representatives.
- Coordinate across disciplines and support PMs with scoping, budgets, estimates, schedules, and milestone planning.
- Mentor and guide engineers/designers; share knowledge through coaching and technical presentations.
- Support proposals and occasional client presentations; help strengthen trusted client relationships.

- Working knowledge of applicable codes/standards (NEC, NESC, ANSI, IEEE) and ability to interpret regulations for non‑routine engineering challenges.
- Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD or Revit and power system software (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower).

- Consulting engineering background (highly preferred).
- Substation design exposure and/or Design‑Build experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technically, collaborate cross‑functionally, and coach early‑career engineers.

- Hybrid position based in Washington, DC (20003 area).
Why people join (what's in it for you)
- Join a firm known for delivering specialized engineering solutions across transportation and critical infrastructure, with recognition as an ENR Top 500 design firm and a Top Workplace.
- Work alongside a rail/transit practice supporting programs that advance safety, reliability, resiliency, and sustainability in public transportation.
