Position Overview

The Air Quality Department Lead - Midwest Region serves as the regional leader responsible for advancing air quality services across the Midwest. This role combines strategic leadership, technical oversight, and operational management to grow and strengthen the regional practice.

This individual will lead complex permitting and compliance programs, guide technical teams in modeling and analysis, and play a critical role in shaping regional growth strategy. The ideal candidate brings deep regulatory expertise, strong client engagement experience, and a proven ability to lead teams delivering high-value environmental solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee air permitting and regulatory compliance efforts across multiple industry sectors.
  • Direct emissions evaluations, regulatory applicability analyses, and control technology assessments.
  • Provide oversight and technical guidance for air dispersion modeling using industry-standard tools.
  • Develop and review environmental management strategies and multi-media compliance documentation.
  • Manage and mentor staff, including performance development, staffing plans, and team growth.
  • Drive proposal development, including scope definition, cost estimating, and project scheduling.
  • Build and maintain strategic client relationships; support regional business development initiatives.
  • Champion quality assurance standards and foster a strong safety and compliance culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • 12+ years of experience in air quality permitting, compliance, or environmental consulting.
  • Strong knowledge of Clean Air Act programs (NSR/PSD, Title V, NSPS, NESHAP).
  • Experience performing or reviewing air dispersion modeling analyses.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management experience in a consulting or technical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior consulting experience with billable project management responsibilities.
  • Established client relationships or a track record of supporting business development.
  • Experience leading technical teams or managing department-level functions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

Compensation

Expected base salary range: $150,000 - $250,000, based on experience and qualifications.
