Assistant Superintendent

Assistant Superintendent (Secure / Mission-Critical Interiors)

Greater DC Area (Primary)

We're partnering with a specialized design-build and consulting contractor focused exclusively on secure, highly regulated interior environments (think mission-critical / secure spaces within larger facilities). Demand is accelerating due to newly clarified regulations driving upgrades and retrofit work - even in spaces delivered within the last few years - creating a strong 3-5 year pipeline of work.

This is a growing, team-oriented business where people are treated like people: 40-hour work weeks are the standard, and leadership prioritizes retaining good talent over burning teams out.

The Opportunity

This Assistant Superintendent role supports field leadership on secure interior projects - helping run day-to-day site operations, coordinate subcontractors, manage short-interval planning, and uphold a high bar for detail, process, and quality.

If you've come up through interiors fit-out, healthcare, or other systems/process-heavy environments, your experience will translate well. Prior secure-space experience is helpful, but not required - the right attitude and discipline matter most.

What You'll Do

Field Execution & Coordination

  • Support the Superintendent with daily field supervision, site logistics, and trade partner coordination
  • Help manage look-ahead planning, daily huddles, and short-interval schedules
  • Track manpower, productivity, and constraints; escalate issues early

Quality, Detail & Process (Critical in this Environment)

  • Maintain clean workflows for inspections, punch lists, and closeout items
  • Verify installations against drawings/specs and project requirements
  • Support QA/QC checklists and ensure consistent execution (the details matter here)

Safety & Site Readiness

  • Enforce jobsite safety expectations and maintain organized work areas
  • Participate in safety walks, toolbox talks, and incident prevention routines

Documentation & Systems

  • Assist with field documentation: daily reports, photos, RFI inputs, submittal coordination support
  • Use standard construction tech tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft tools) to keep work flowing

Client & Stakeholder Support

  • Represent the team professionally during site walks and coordination meetings
  • Help maintain clean communication between site, PM team, and consultants

What Success Looks Like (First 60-90 Days)

  • You become the Superintendent's right hand - trusted to run portions of the site independently
  • Trade partners are aligned, work areas are organized, and daily plans are clear
  • Documentation is consistent, issues are surfaced early, and quality holds without rework

Ideal Background

We're open on "where you learned it," but strong alignment typically comes from:

  • Interiors / tenant fit-out supervision (commercial interiors, critical renovations, etc.)
  • Healthcare construction (process-driven, high attention to detail, sequencing discipline)
  • Other regulated environments where mistakes cascade and process matters

Requirements

  • Experience supporting field leadership as an Assistant Superintendent / Field Engineer / Lead Foreman (ready to step up) / Junior Superintendent on commercial projects
  • Comfortable coordinating multiple subcontractors and maintaining site structure
  • Solid baseline tech skills (Procore/Bluebeam/MS Office or willingness to learn quickly)
  • Strong communication, calm under pressure, and a "figure it out" mindset
  • US citizenship required due to project requirements
  • Valid driver's license; comfort traveling occasionally is a plus (not always required)
