About the Opportunity
A growing building enclosure consulting practice is seeking a Building Enclosure Consultant to join its Austin team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects involving building enclosure design, assessment, rehabilitation, diagnostics, and construction-phase consulting. You'll gain exposure to both new construction and existing building projects while developing expertise across the full project lifecycle.
The position is ideal for a professional who enjoys the technical side of building enclosure consulting but is also interested in expanding into project management, client interaction, proposal development, and leadership responsibilities over time.
Key Responsibilities
Building Enclosure Consulting & Technical Delivery
- Evaluate building enclosure systems, including roofing, waterproofing, facades, exterior walls, fenestration, and air/water barrier assemblies.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and contractor submittals.
- Perform field investigations to identify water intrusion, air leakage, condensation, and building performance issues.
- Assess existing structures and develop repair, rehabilitation, restoration, and retrofit recommendations.
- Conduct field observations during construction to verify compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Assist with diagnostic testing and performance evaluations in accordance with ASTM, AAMA, and other applicable standards.
- Prepare technical reports documenting methodologies, observations, findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and project teams throughout project delivery.
- Support quality reviews and help ensure compliance with relevant building codes and industry best practices.
Project & Client Support
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and construction meetings.
- Support the preparation of proposals, scopes of work, and technical narratives.
- Contribute to business development efforts through relationship-building and client support.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Monitor project progress and help identify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Building Science, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience within building enclosure consulting, architecture, engineering, construction, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of building enclosure systems, building performance, and material compatibility.
- Experience reviewing construction documents, specifications, and technical submittals.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing reports and project documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar software is preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments within a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Willingness to perform site visits, rooftop observations, and occasional travel as required.
