Building Envelope Lead
You will take ownership of developing the firm's Building Enclosure offering in Dallas, strengthening client relationships, winning new work and helping build the local team. You will combine hands-on technical leadership with business development and market growth. This would suit an experienced Building Enclosure Consultant, Forensic Architect or Engineer who wants greater influence over the direction of a practice without taking on the risk of starting a business independently.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead complex building enclosure investigations from initial assessment through repair design and project delivery
- Provide technical direction to project teams, technicians and specialist consultants
- Investigate water intrusion, façade, roofing, waterproofing, glazing and exterior wall issues
- Direct field testing, visual assessments and intrusive investigations
- Review construction documents and existing conditions to identify defects and determine the cause of failures
- Prepare clear technical reports, repair recommendations, drawings, specifications and bid documents
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, quality and client expectations
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to owners, investors, lenders, developers and other stakeholders
- Develop proposals, scopes and fee estimates
- Build relationships with prospective clients and identify opportunities to expand existing accounts
- Strengthen the firm's reputation and grow its Building Enclosure presence throughout Dallas-Fort Worth
- Support the future recruitment and development of a local technical team
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or a related discipline
- Active PE or RA License
- Approximately 15 or more years of relevant industry experience
- Strong Building Envelope, Building Enclosure, Building Science or forensic investigation experience
- Experience investigating defects, failures, water intrusion and construction-related damage
- Strong understanding of roofing, façades, exterior walls, waterproofing, glazing and other enclosure systems
- Experience producing technical reports, repair documents, drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of construction processes, sequencing, materials and contract documentation
- Demonstrable project and client leadership experience
- Confidence developing relationships, preparing proposals and supporting business development
- Ability to operate independently while collaborating with a wider national team
- Willingness to travel locally and regionally for site visits, approximately 30% of the time
Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Box or PlanGrid would be beneficial.
