Civil Construction Estimator

Their project portfolio includes mass earthwork, bridgework, underground utilities, aggregate base, pavement removals, structural concrete, shoring, large diameter sewer, runway and taxiway rehabilitation, milling, and major DOT-related infrastructure work.
Position Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Estimator to support bidding and preconstruction efforts across heavy highway, site civil, commercial, industrial, environmental, and structural infrastructure projects.
This role will work closely with the Estimating Manager, Group Managers, and Project Managers to prepare quantity takeoffs, build estimates, review bid documents, organize subcontractor and supplier pricing, and support projects from bid stage through handoff. Depending on experience, this person may also assist with project administration, cost reporting, scheduling, and contract support during construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for heavy highway, site civil, commercial, industrial, environmental, and infrastructure projects
- Build accurate material, earthwork, utility, and line-item quantities to support bid pricing
- Review plans, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements to understand full project scope
- Solicit, review, and organize subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Support bid preparation using company estimating software and internal resources
- Attend pre-bid meetings, preconstruction meetings, and project reviews as needed
- Assist with subcontractor and vendor selection during bid and buyout stages
- Support contract review, project scheduling, and cost reporting when assigned
- Help prepare estimate backup, bid files, quantity documentation, and project handoff information
- Work closely with project managers, estimators, and field leadership across multiple offices or project teams
- Assist with contract administration and project support from start through closeout when required
- Support junior estimating staff with training, takeoff guidance, and process development where appropriate
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in heavy civil estimating, construction management, civil engineering, or a related discipline
- Experience with transportation, site civil, roadway, utility, bridge, or structural infrastructure projects
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Drafting Technology, or a related field preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, bid documents, and contract documents
- AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble Business Center, AGTEK, or similar civil takeoff software experience preferred
- Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, HeavyJob or similar estimating software preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and Word
- Ability to calculate earthwork quantities, utility quantities, material quantities, and production-based estimates
- Understanding of grading, roadway work, DTM creation, alignments, cross sections, and quantity tracking preferred
- Strong computer skills and confidence working with numbers, spreadsheets, and estimating systems
