Position Overview
A leading engineering and systems integration organisation is seeking a Controls Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of industrial automation experience to support the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of advanced control systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering automation solutions across complex industrial and mission-critical environments, with a strong emphasis on Siemens PCS 7 Distributed Control Systems (DCS), process automation, and plant operations.
The Controls Engineer will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and end users to develop reliable, scalable, and high-performance automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, system reliability, and process safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, configure, and implement Siemens PCS 7 control system applications.
- Create and maintain control system architecture, functional design specifications, test plans, and technical documentation.
- Develop and modify DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA software in accordance with project requirements.
- Perform system integration, I/O validation, FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), and commissioning activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues during installation, startup, and ongoing operations.
- Interface with operations, maintenance, process, and project engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Configure industrial communication networks and integrate third-party systems and equipment.
- Support upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle management of existing Siemens automation platforms.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Provide technical support, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and plant personnel when required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or process control systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with Siemens PCS 7.
- Experience with Siemens automation technologies including:
- PCS 7
- TIA Portal
- WinCC
- Siemens PLCs (S7-300, S7-400, S7-1500)
- Experience with commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and field support activities.
- Strong understanding of process control systems, instrumentation, and industrial control networks.
- Experience developing technical documentation, control narratives, and functional specifications.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control drawings, and process documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to travel to customer sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience within manufacturing, data centres, utilities, water/wastewater, transportation, pharmaceuticals, or mission-critical facilities.
- Knowledge of industrial networking protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC, and Ethernet/IP.
- Experience with cybersecurity standards and secure industrial control system design.
- Familiarity with ISA-88, ISA-95, and IEC standards.
