Controls Engineer - Ramsey, NJ

Overview

We're supporting a growing automation-focused manufacturer in the search for an experienced Controls Engineer. This role is responsible for designing, programming, and supporting industrial control systems, with involvement across project delivery, custom engineering work, and customer support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain control system architectures, electrical schematics, and bills of materials
  • Develop, test, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs
  • Provide technical support during factory testing, on-site installation, and post-deployment troubleshooting (remote and in the field)
  • Lead the controls and electrical scope for non-standard and custom-engineered projects
  • Partner with panel shop teams to ensure control panels are built, wired, and installed to design, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Select and specify electrical and controls components
  • Support sales and applications teams with technical input, system configurations, hardware pricing, and labor estimates for customized solutions
  • Create and maintain technical documentation such as design specifications and validation records
  • Travel to customer sites as required (approximately up to 10%)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in controls or automation engineering
  • Strong PLC programming experience (Rockwell / Allen‑Bradley preferred; experience with other platforms such as Keyence or Panasonic is a plus)
  • Proficiency with Studio 5000 / RSLogix, AutoCAD, HMI software, and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with industrial vision systems is advantageous
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and systems-level thinking
  • Hands-on experience working with sensors, actuators, pneumatics, motion control (servo/stepper), and VFDs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical and machine safety standards (NEC, UL, NFPA 79, CE, NEMA, PMMI, ISO/EN)
