Automation / Controls Engineer

Overview

We're looking for a technically driven Automation / Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and commissioning of advanced automated systems. This role involves hands-on work with PLCs, robotics, motion systems, and control panel design, along with collaboration across engineering and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and troubleshoot automated systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
  • Develop and debug ladder logic for complex equipment.
  • Create and interpret electrical schematics; support control panel design.
  • Integrate motion systems including VFDs, servos, stepper motors, and robotics.
  • Work with vision systems and proprietary/PC-based controls.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and testing of machinery.
  • Identify potential technical issues early and contribute to problem resolution.
  • Support training, demonstrations, and system handovers (may involve supervising small teams).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Strong experience with industrial automation technologies:
    • PLCs, HMIs, SCADA
    • Motion control systems
    • Robotics integration
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot ladder logic.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical standards (UL, NFPA).
  • Understanding of electrical/electronic fundamentals.
  • Experience producing technical documentation and schematics.

Preferred Experience

  • 3-5 years working in manufacturing or automation environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell systems.
  • Familiarity with UI development (e.g., XAML, MVVM).
  • Exposure to:
    • Machine vision systems
    • Pneumatic / hydraulic systems
    • 3D design tools such as SolidWorks
  • Experience in structured engineering environments (ISO, LEAN, JIT, GMP).
  • Previous leadership or process improvement experience is a plus.

  • Occasional standing, bending, or light physical activity.
  • Ability to lift light-to-moderate loads when required.

Additional Information

  • Full-time role, Monday to Friday (occasional weekend work).
  • Some travel required, including potential international trips.
