Controls Estimator
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Building Automation Controls Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for building automation systems (BAS), including HVAC controls, lighting controls, and integrated systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical schematics, and control technologies, along with excellent analytical and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project specifications, drawings, and RFPs to determine scope and requirements.
- Develop detailed cost estimates for building automation systems, including materials, labor, subcontractors, and equipment.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and project management teams to ensure alignment on scope and pricing.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and propose cost-effective solutions.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals and documentation in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update estimating tools, databases, and pricing libraries.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed.
- Track and analyze bid performance and market trends to improve accuracy and competitiveness.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in estimating for building automation or HVAC controls (3+ years preferred).
- Strong knowledge of BAS components, control strategies, and integration protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control system drawings.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Degree or certification in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar design/review tools.
- Familiarity with major BAS platforms (e.g., Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Trane).
- Understanding of LEED, energy efficiency standards, and smart building technologies.
