2) Position Summary
This position exists to ensure electrical design solutions meet global engineering standards, local regulatory requirements, cost and programme objectives, and long-term operational resilience.
3) Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the electrical design process across new builds, phased expansions, retrofits, and upgrade projects for mission-critical facilities
- Develop and issue design briefs, manage external consultants, and run technical design workshops to ensure alignment with project requirements and site constraints
- Review, analyse, and approve electrical design submissions, specifications, calculations, BIM models, and technical documentation
- Ensure designs comply with local Japanese regulations, global engineering standards, and sustainability targets
- Provide technical leadership on electrical systems, MEP integration, BMS/EPMS, and critical infrastructure resilience
- Evaluate design feasibility, cost, maintainability, and total cost of ownership to support informed engineering decisions
- Drive innovation by advising on emerging technologies, engineering tools, and future-proof design strategies
- Support procurement and delivery teams through a strong commercial and cost-conscious engineering approach
- Oversee testing and commissioning strategies including FAT, SAT, IST, and full system integration
- Represent the business in complex discussions with general contractors and stakeholders, ensuring milestones, handovers, and governance approvals are achieved
- Produce clear, confident written and verbal progress reports to senior stakeholders and project teams
- Support sales and customer engagements by translating client requirements into robust technical solutions
4) Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with eligibility for professional accreditation
- 5-10+ years of experience in electrical design engineering within data centres, mission-critical, or high-security environments
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering design across complex capital projects
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, MEP interfaces, mission-critical infrastructure, and control systems
- Solid understanding of design management processes, consultant appointments, change control, and cost management
- Experience working within the Japanese construction and regulatory environment
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive problem solver with the ability to work under pressure
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills
- Fluent Japanese (written and spoken) and good working English
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
