Electrical Estimator, Senior Estimator, Chief Estimator
A well-established electrical contractor in the Greater Boston area is expanding its preconstruction team and is seeking experienced Electrical Estimators, Senior Electrical Estimators, and a Chief Electrical Estimator. These positions offer the opportunity to work on major commercial electrical projects across healthcare, life sciences, higher education, offices, residential, hospitality, sports, and entertainment. The contractor has a strong project backlog, an active pipeline of large-scale opportunities, and clear progression available within its commercial division. Candidates will be considered at the appropriate level based on their electrical estimating experience, project background, leadership capabilities, and knowledge of the Greater Boston construction market.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates and competitive bid proposals for commercial electrical construction projects
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, contracts, and other bid documentation
- Complete accurate quantity take-offs and develop labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
- Solicit, review, and compare quotations from vendors and subcontractors
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, project risks, and value engineering opportunities
- Develop bid qualifications, clarifications, assumptions, and proposal documentation
- Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and post-bid interviews as required
- Coordinate with project management, field operations, purchasing, and senior leadership throughout preconstruction
- Maintain accurate estimating records, historical cost data, bid files, and project information
- Support estimating handovers to project management and operations teams following contract award
- Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, vendors, subcontractors, and other industry partners
- Monitor market pricing, material costs, labour requirements, and industry conditions
Senior and Chief Estimator Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and review of estimates for large, complex, and high-value commercial electrical projects
- Develop bid strategy and make recommendations regarding project selection, risk, pricing, and competitiveness
- Review estimates for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with company objectives
- Lead bid reviews and present recommendations to senior leadership
- Assign workload and provide guidance, training, and mentor-ship to estimating team members
- Establish and improve estimating procedures, templates, databases, and quality-control processes
- Coordinate estimating resources across multiple concurrent bids and preconstruction assignments
- Support the recruitment, development, and performance management of the estimating team
- Partner with operational leadership to improve estimating accuracy and incorporate lessons learned from completed projects
Requirements
- Previous estimating experience with an electrical contractor
- Experience estimating commercial electrical construction projects
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, installation methods, labour requirements, and construction costs
- Experience completing quantity take-offs, labour estimates, material pricing, and bid proposals
- Knowledge of vendor and subcontractor procurement processes
- Strong analytical, commercial, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to manage deadlines and work accurately across multiple bids
- Proficiency with electrical estimating software and Microsoft Office
- Experience with healthcare, life science, higher education, commercial office, residential, hospitality, or other complex projects is preferred
- Knowledge of the Greater Boston construction market is beneficial
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent electrical construction experience will be considered
- Team leadership, bid strategy, and staff development experience are required for senior leadership positions
