The Opportunity

We are partnering with an established electrical contractor in Chicago looking to add an experienced Project Manager to its Mission Critical team.

This position will take ownership of complex electrical construction projects from preconstruction and handover through execution and final closeout. You'll act as a central point between the client, field leadership, internal operations teams, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

The role is particularly suited to someone who has managed large-scale electrical projects within data centers, mission critical facilities, advanced manufacturing, or similarly complex construction environments.

Opportunities are available for candidates interested in either a more locally focused position or supporting major projects across the Midwest.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage electrical construction projects from initial handover through completion and closeout.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, procurement plans, and key milestones.
• Monitor labor performance, material requirements, project costs, billing, and overall financial health.
• Identify potential project risks and take a proactive approach to resolving schedule, commercial, or operational challenges.
• Manage RFIs, change orders, scope revisions, and other project documentation.
• Coordinate closely with Superintendents and field leadership to ensure office and site operations remain aligned.
• Build strong relationships with clients, general contractors, construction managers, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Participate in project meetings and regularly visit active construction sites.
• Support procurement and coordinate major equipment and material deliveries against the construction schedule.
• Assist with estimating, scope reviews, take-offs, bid analysis, and project turnover where required.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and developing team members.
• Take ownership of project performance, ensuring expectations around safety, quality, schedule, and financial results are achieved.
• Support existing client relationships while identifying opportunities for additional project work.

Ideal Background

• Approximately 5+ years of construction project management experience, ideally within the electrical contracting industry.
• Previous involvement with large or technically complex electrical projects.
• Data center or mission critical construction experience would be particularly attractive.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction, including power distribution, low-voltage systems, and associated infrastructure.
• Experience managing project budgets, labor forecasts, procurement, scheduling, and change management.
• Ability to understand estimates, drawings, scopes of work, contracts, and project cost reports.
• Comfortable working directly with field teams, clients, general contractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to understand the financial performance of a project.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
• Able to operate effectively in fast-moving construction environments with multiple competing priorities.
• Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is beneficial but not essential where supported by relevant industry experience.
• PMP or similar project management credentials would be considered a plus.
