Position: Environmental Department Manager
Location: Lawrenceville, NJ
We are seeking a seasoned environmental professional to lead and manage environmental documentation and permitting efforts for transportation infrastructure projects across the Northeast region. This role involves overseeing technical teams, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, including NEPA.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise technical staff in the preparation of environmental documentation and permit applications.
- Manage and review work from environmental subconsultants, ensuring quality across technical studies such as cultural resources, air quality, noise, wetlands, socio-economics, ecology, and hazardous waste.
- Provide expert guidance to project teams to ensure environmental compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Serve as a liaison with client representatives and regulatory agencies.
- Present environmental findings and project impacts at public hearings and information sessions.
- Support project managers by contributing to technical reports, scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and presentations.
- Oversee budgets and timelines for environmental components of infrastructure projects.
- Collaborate with leadership to grow and enhance environmental service offerings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 15 years of experience preparing environmental documents (e.g., NEPA EISs, EAs, CEDs) and permit applications for transportation projects in NJ, NY, or PA.
- Minimum of 10 years supervising technical staff in environmental documentation and permitting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Environmental Science, Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience working on projects for transportation agencies such as NJDOT, NYSDOT, or similar.
