Position: Environmental Scientist
Location: Brooklyn/Queens, NY
We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Scientist with hands-on experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in environmental fieldwork, data collection, and technical reporting, along with familiarity with projects regulated by the NYC Office of Environmental Remediation (OER). This role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful environmental projects across New York City and work closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, including site inspections, historical research, and regulatory reviews to identify potential environmental concerns.
- Perform Phase II Environmental Site Assessments involving soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling, and oversee subcontractors during field investigations.
- Analyze field and laboratory data and prepare detailed, accurate environmental reports that meet regulatory and client requirements.
- Support or manage projects under the NYC OER framework, including preparation of required documentation and coordination with regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, including NYSDEC and NYC OER standards, throughout all phases of project execution.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to integrate environmental considerations into broader project goals.
- Maintain organized project documentation, including field notes, chain-of-custody records, and regulatory correspondence.
- Assist in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling for environmental tasks, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
- Experience supporting or managing NYC OER projects and familiarity with NYSDEC regulatory frameworks.
- Strong fieldwork skills, including sampling techniques and site safety practices.
- Proficiency in technical writing and environmental reporting.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
