Are you an experienced construction estimator with a proven track record of bidding and winning wet utility and water infrastructure projects? We are seeking a talented Estimator to join a growing construction team based in Vista, California. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in securing complex infrastructure projects that improve communities throughout Southern California.
About the Role
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of projects involving wet utilities, underground pipelines, water distribution systems, sewer systems, storm drains, pump stations, and water/wastewater treatment facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, project management, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to develop winning bids and support business growth.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for public and private construction projects.
- Analyze plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Develop pricing strategies and assist with bid preparation and proposal development.
- Identify project risks, opportunities, and value-engineering solutions.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations.
- Coordinate with project management and operations teams to ensure estimate accuracy and project handoff.
- Maintain estimating databases, production rates, labor costs, and historical pricing information.
- Track bid results and market trends to improve future estimating efforts.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience successfully bidding and winning wet utility and/or water treatment plant construction projects.
- Strong experience estimating projects involving water, sewer, storm drain, underground utilities, water distribution systems, pump stations, or water/wastewater treatment plants.
- Ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive project estimates.
- Experience reviewing plans, specifications, and contract documents for public works and heavy civil construction projects.
- Knowledge of construction methods, equipment, production rates, and project scheduling.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
