Water Resources Project Engineer (PE) | Denver, CO

A well-established engineering consulting firm is seeking a licensed Water Resources Engineer to support a diverse portfolio of stormwater, drainage, floodplain, and watershed projects throughout Colorado. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who enjoys a technically focused role involving hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, modeling, and problem-solving for public-sector infrastructure projects.

This position will play a key role in evaluating stormwater systems, supporting flood risk and drainage studies, preparing technical deliverables, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on complex water resources challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for stormwater, drainage, floodplain, and watershed projects.
  • Develop and apply hydraulic and hydrologic models to evaluate existing conditions and support engineering recommendations.
  • Utilize GIS and other analytical tools to assess infrastructure systems and watershed conditions.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, memorandums, and project documentation.
  • Support planning, design, permitting, and implementation efforts for municipal and regional water resources projects.
  • Coordinate with engineers, planners, scientists, and clients throughout project execution.
  • Participate in occasional field investigations and site assessments as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Approximately 7+ years of experience in water resources engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting stormwater, drainage, watershed, and floodplain projects.
  • Hands-on experience performing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling as well as GIS-based analysis.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments within a consulting environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Floodplain studies and mapping.
  • Stormwater management and drainage master planning.
  • Municipal infrastructure and public-sector projects.
  • Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software.
  • Scripting, automation, or advanced data analysis tools.

Additional Information

This position is primarily focused on stormwater, drainage, floodplain, watershed, and hydraulic modeling projects. Candidates whose experience is primarily concentrated in water/wastewater treatment process design, utility operations, building systems, or environmental remediation may not align with the core technical requirements of the role.
