Role Overview
This position offers an exciting opportunity for engineers who enjoy programming and working with electrical and mechanical systems. The Automation Engineer will leverage programming expertise and engineering knowledge to develop software solutions that interface with and control hardware. The role combines independent technical work with collaborative efforts across teams and clients, requiring strong communication skills, project management support, and the ability to build lasting business relationships.
Responsibilities
(Engineering Levels II & III - 3-5+ years of relevant experience)
- Develop applications following established programming standards and best practices to meet and exceed client requirements.
- Commission automation solutions at client sites, including troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems (domestic and occasional international travel required).
- Work with major industrial platforms such as PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Ignition, etc.).
- Continuously learn new technologies and gain exposure to sales, business development, and project processes.
- Support system architecture design and perform engineering tasks across all project stages, taking on both leadership and supporting roles.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
- Deliver project outcomes through clear communication and maintain strong client relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.4.
- 3-5+ years of relevant experience in industrial automation.
- Proficiency in programming, including text-based languages and object-oriented concepts.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies, understand complex systems, and apply established design patterns.
- Experience designing projects involving PLCs, motion control, process control, HMI, SCADA, robotics, or machine vision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop proposals.
- Interest in working across diverse industries, including government and defense.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work directly with clients.
- Willingness to travel 20-35% (additional benefits for higher travel commitments).
